The Kano State Hospitals Management Board, in collaboration with Health Management Office Unit (Hmou), organized capacity building workshop for 123 Nurses and Midwives on the identification and management of emergency obstetric and newborn care, re-sensitization on professional ethics and etiquette.
The training was held from at the Khalifa Sheikh Isyaka Rabiu Paediatrics Hospital.
The programme was designed to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of Nurses and Midwives across the state, ensuring that they are better equipped to handle maternal and neonatal emergencies while upholding the ethical consideration and highest standards of professional conduct.
At the opening of the workshop which featured technical presentations on key Maternal Emergencies including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, postpartum and antepartum hemorrhage (PPH/APH), obstructed labour, sepsis, shoulder dystocia, cord prolapse, and Maternal care management,while the second segment focused on the re-sensitization of Nurses and Midwives on ethics and professional etiquette, reinforcing their role as compassionate and disciplined caregivers in a Statement issued by Samira Sulaiman Spokeperson of the State Hospitals Management Board which was sent to thetentaclesnews.com.ng
Similarly on the second day was opened with a presentation on the identification of Neonatal emergencies, followed by a practical hands-on session where participants engaged in demonstrations and simulations to enhance their competency in managing real-life cases.
The training was facilitated by seasoned resource experts, including Dr. Hanifa Datti Abubakar, a Senior Consultant in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Mallam Abubakar Aminu Abdullahi and Sumayya Ibrahim among others
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, who also chaired the occasion, commended the organisers and applauded the participants for their commitments where he urged them to translate the knowledge gained into positive practical impacts in their respective workplaces, stressing that as health professionals dealing with human lives, every action counts in saving mothers and newborns.
The training was funded by the Health Management Office Unit (Hmou) as part of its continued contributions to strengthen the healthcare system in Kano State.
This initiative reaffirms the state government’s commitments under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, towards improving Maternal and Child health outcomes, enhancing professional standards, and capacity building of frontline Health Workers for a healthier Kano.
