Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Kano State, Barr. Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, has constituted an emergency committee to identify and review all outstanding cases across correctional centres and courts in the state.
According to the Attorney General, the initiative was aimed to address cases yet to be brought before the courts, missing case files, and matters that have suffered undue delays, with a view to strengthening the administration of justice in Kano State as revealed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry Najib Lawan Dambazau in a communication issued to thetentacles news.com.ng
The committee was chaired by Barr. Rabi’at Sa’ad, Chief State Counsel, while Barr. Khalifa Auwal Hashim, Principal State Counsel,to serve as Secretary.
Other members include:- Barr. Garzali Maigari Bichi, Barr. Maryam Muhammad Jibril, Barr. Umar Yakubu, Barr. Nafi’u Kabiru Muhammad, and Barr. Maryam Abdullah Fulani.
Barr. Maude directed the committee to submit its report by Tuesday, 14th October 2025, with detailed findings and practical recommendations to ensure the speedy and fair dispensation of justice for all.
The Attorney General reaffirmed that “Justice delayed is justice denied”adding that “We are determined to ensure that no one remains in custody without due process, and that every case receives the attention it deserves.”
In her remarks, the Chairperson of the Committee, Barr. Rabi’at Sa’ad, thanked the Attorney General and the Solicitor General, Barr. Salisu Muhammad Tahir, for the confidence reposed in them. She assured that the committee would complete its assignment within the stipulated period and perform beyond expectations to support the Ministry’s reform agenda.
The committee’s mandate includes identifying inmates who have overstayed without trial, locating missing case files, and assessing the level of compliance of courts with established procedures.
It will also make recommendations for reforms to enhance coordination among prosecutors, correctional authorities, and the judiciary.
Similarly Barr. Maude reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness and commitments to fairness, transparency, and accountability in the administration of justice. He called on Judges, Lawyers, and other stakeholders in the justice sector to cooperate fully with the committee to ensure that justice is not only done but also seen to be done in Kano State.
