The Primary Health Department of Gezawa Local Government has launched the maternal and newborn child week focusing on improving the health care services of pregnant women and young children in the area.
The coordinator of the programm,Hajiya Maijidda Badayi Bashir, stated that essential medications will be distributed to health centers across the local government
The medicines is meant for the pregnant women to address certain diseases at early detection such as breast and cervical cancer, as well as vaccines for infants and young children, to improve their health being
.Hajiya Maijidda also called on parent especially nursing and Pregnant mothers to fully support the initiative, emphasizing that “it is worth the effort for the greater benefit.”
In her remarks, the Head of Primary Health Care in Gezawa, Hajiya Aisha Sa’id Suwait, highlighted that the program is a government initiative and urged other local governments to replicate it in order to enhance access to quality healthcare for women and children.
Such initiative is one of the core values of the Center for Human Rights and Civic Education in pressing up for the implementation of Maternal and Child Health Care Law in the State
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Gezawa Local Government, Alhaji Mukaddas Bala Jogana, urged community members especially men to support the program by encouraging their wives to participate and benefit from the healthcare services provided.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuously support the health sector by renovating health centers and providing medical equipment He also thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his dedication in rebuilding and constructing new health facilities across all local government areas.
