The congress presided over by the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD JP considered several critical matters of various interests to the union, and the state.
At the end of the deliberations in the congress, the union made the following resolutions as the communique:
- The congress commended the EXCO for the successful outing in the NUJ Anambra State Council’s Press week held in August 2025 where NUJ National Officers and Very important dignitaries were in attendance.
- The Congress commended Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna for the upward review of the price of the Okunna Award for Ethical Journalism.
- The Congress commended the NUJ Football Team for their good efforts in the Press Week football match against the Anambra Patriots.
- Congress utterly condemned the increasing rates of kidnapping and trafficking of innocent children and called on security operatives in the state to swing into more action to arrest the growing ugly trend.
- Congress called for a stronger synergy between INEC and NUJ as well as all civil societies and relevant non-governmental organizations to help in voters sensitization, education and proper election reporting for the good conduct of the November 8, 2025, Governorship election in the state.
- Congress charged candidates of all the political parties to be civil while campaigning for votes to avoid unnecessary heating up of the polity as the supper inflation Nigerians are presently going through is enough trauma to the residents.
- Congress utterly condemned the increasing cases of frequent land grabbing and resale of lands in the state and called on the Anambra State House of Assembly to enact a law making the dishonest act a more criminal offence causing a clog in the wheel of individual and collective development in the state.
- Congress commented the Acting Vice-Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Carol Umeobi for her sterling contributions for the growth and development of the great citadel of learning named after Zik of Africa, Owelle Late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, urging her to keep the tempo even higher.
- Congress appealed for consideration to many Anambra youths seeking for admission into the federal university and have a way of getting them absorbed in less competitive courses rather than leaving them empty handed. Even as the Congress commended the Public Relations department of the University for keeping the public abreast of information from the university for increased subscription and goodwill.
- Congress warned politicians and their supporters not to heat up the polity unnecessarily for their selfish gains but rather to see the forthcoming election in the state as a brotherly contest where one person must emerge as the winner.
- Congress commended Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, as the MD/CEO, Anambra State ICT Agency, for the outfit’s outstanding efforts in digitizing governance, bridging information divides through the Solution Wi-Fi Initiative, and fostering inclusion in internet access and connectivity. The agency’s achievements, made possible under the visionary leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, include the provision of digital devices for teachers and workers, as well as the upcoming Smart School Project. Congress further appreciates the agency’s partnership with the NUJ Anambra State Council in training of Journalists; presence of the MD/CEO in the NUJ Anambra State Council’s October Congress to interact with journalists on the feats so far recorded by the agency and promise for Internet access to the union.
- Congress appreciated Dr. Davidson Azubuike Nkala, Director of General Studies Unit, and former Head of Department of Mass Communication, Paul University Awka, for the training insights he provided to the members of the union on the topic ‘beyond the paycheck,’ which was inspired by Dr Nkala’s experience in journalism and belief in God factor for career progression.
- Congress appreciated Chief Primus Odili, Okosisi Aguleri and Convener of Okosisi Political Movement for Soludo, who provided financial support to the NUJ Anambra State in support of the October Congress and had face to face interaction with the union for solidarity on the political mission of the group come November 8, 2025 Governorship Election in the State..
