The Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, through its legal counsel, Barrister Bahijjah H. Aliyu, has successfully prosecuted and secured the conviction of one Ibrahim Abubakar for violating pollution control and public health laws.

Abubakar was arrested by police patrol officers at Tukuntawa Gidan Radio area for burning vehicle tyres, an act that posed significant health risks to the public due to toxic smoke.

Following a complaint lodged by residents, Director of Pollution Control, Ibrahim Nasir, led a team to the area for inspection, which led to the filing of the case at the Magistrate Court.

During the trial, the prosecution presented compelling evidence highlighting the serious harm caused by the defendant’s actions.

In a judgment delivered by Magistrate Auwalu Yusuf, Abubakar was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment or a fine.

The Magistrate cautioned the defendant against repeating such acts, emphasizing their detrimental impact on human health.
