Gaya Polytechnic will soon take off as Govt set up Committee.

Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the educational sector through the provision of effective policies and the establishment of new Tertiary Institutions across the State.

Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, disclosed this on behalf of the Executive Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, while inaugurating the Committee for the establishment and take-off of Gaya Polytechnic in his office, this was contained in a Press Release by Yusuf Abubakar Ibrahim, Information Officer at the Office of the Deputy Governor and made available to thetentaclesnews.com.ng

The 14-member committee is chaired by Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano, with Dr. Hadi Bala Yahaya, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, serving as Co-Chairman.

Other members include Professor Bala Sale D/Tofa, Dr. Muhammad Umar Kibiya, Professor Auwalu Halliru Arzai, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin Fagge, Engr. Yahaya Abubakar Baba, Professor Abba Garba Gaya, Dr. Garba Alhaji Adamu, Dr. Surajo Isa Gaya, Halilu Aminu, and Engr. Abubakar M. Adamu.Shehu Sani Shehu, Director, Administration and General Services, Ministry of Higher Education, and Dr. Lukuman T. Suraj will serve as Head of Secretariat and Secretary respectively.

Reiterating the administration’s resolve, the Deputy Governor stated that the government is determined to fulfill its promise to the people of Gaya by establishing a Tertiary Institution that will serve the educational and socio-economic needs of the area.

He charged the committee members to work diligently to ensure that academic activities commence at the Polytechnic in the next academic session.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, assured the Deputy Governor of their readiness to deliver on the mandate, noting that the caliber of members appointed reflects the government’s commitment to merit and competence.

The terms of reference of the committee include:-Facilitating the passage of the Polytechnic Establishment Bill into law, Overseeing renovations, designs, and construction of essential buildings and facilities, Securing approvals from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for take-off programs, Liaising with the Ministry of Education on relocation matters, Recruiting qualified teaching and non-teaching staff, Sourcing experienced personnel within the state service, Recommending qualified officials for government appointments, Processing student admissions, Establishing partnerships with relevant stakeholders, Co-opting additional members for ad hoc assignments where necessary and Undertaking any other services incidental to the assignment.

The inauguration of this committee marks a significant milestone in the present administration’s drive to expand access to quality tertiary education to the teeming populace of Kano State.
