The Primary Health Department of Gezawa Local Government has launched the maternal and newborn child week focusing on improving the health of nursing and pregnant womenas well as young children in the area.
The coordinator of the programm Hajiya Maijidda Badayi Bashir, stated that essential drugs would be distributed to health centers across the local government for pregnant women to help prevent diseases such as breast and cervical cancer, as well as vaccines for infants and young children, to ensure they grow up healthy
.Hajiya Maijidda also called on parents—especially mothersto fully support the initiative, emphasizing that “it is worth the effort for the greater benefit.”
In her remarks, the Head of Primary Health Care in Gezawa, Hajiya Aisha Sa’id Suwait, highlighted that the program is a government initiative and urged other local governments to replicate it in order to enhance access to quality healthcare for women and children.
Such initiative is among the core values of the Center for Human Rights and Civic Education CHRICED which is always agitating for the implementation of the Mertanal and Child Health Care Law in the State as when fully implemented would address the issue of Maternal mortality and child morbidity in the State and invariably would reduce the loss of lives during delivery
hence the Center is collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the full implementation of the Law
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Gezawa Local Government, Alhaji Mukaddas Bala Jogana, urged community members especially men to support the program by encouraging their wives to participate and benefit from the healthcare services provided.He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuously support the health sector by renovating health centers and providing medical equipmentHe also thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his dedication in rebuilding and constructing new health facilities across all local government areas.
