As part of her official working visit to Kano Correctional Centres, the Chief Judge of Kano, Hon. Justice Dije Audu Aboki, has released six inmates who had spent the longest time in custody.
The release was made due to the absence of active prosecution, lack of case files, and prolonged delays in their legal proceedings.Justice Aboki emphasized that this action aligns with her commitments to reform and improve the administration of justice in Kano State in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Command MUSBAHU Lawan Kofar Nasarawa and made available to thetententaclesnews.com.ng
She reiterated call for stronger collaboration among all stakeholders in the justice system, especially the Nigeria Police Force, the Office of the Attorney General of the State, and the Nigerian Correctional Service pointing out that the aim is to ensure timely dispensation of justice and reduce prolonged pre-trial detention and as well to decongest the facilities.
She also appealed to those who regained freedom to become good ambassadors of society and law abiding always.
While making Speech the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, cautioned the released inmates to abide by the law and refrain from actions that could return them to incarceration. He also commended the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Indidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni, for his continuous commitments to inmate welfare, reformation and rehabilitation, especially through skills acquisition programs and educational opportunities aimed at making the inmates become self-reliant and self sustain.
He equally expressed gratitude to the Chief Judge for bringing succor to the lives of the released inamtes assuring her that the Command would continue to work with her office for the betterment of the inmates in the Correctional Centers.
