The Kano State Government, under Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, was totally committed to fighting malaria in the state.
Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf made this known during official launching of distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets at Birji Primary Health in Madobi Local Government Area.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, stated that malaria is a serious disease that causes significant financial strain due to medical expenses, and disrupts the wellbeing and productivity of individuals in the Society
Aminu Abdussalam urged the public to make proper use of the mosquito nets, encouraging heads of households to ensure their families use the nets whenever they’re going to bed to prevent mosquito bites and reduce malaria infections.
He also pointed out that Kano State Government has recorded many achievements in improving healthcare, which has led to a reduction in malaria, respiratory infections, and other diseases affecting the people, especially women and children where it place utmost priority to Maternal and Child Health Care Services adding that government, through the Ministry of Health, is making serious efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality rate emphasizing that measures are being taken and progress is being made in this regard.
The Deputy Governor also appealed to political leaders and traditional rulers to monitor their communities to ensure environmental hygiene, including clearing drainage systems, cutting grasses, and removing waste materials to reduce mosquito breeding grounds.
In his Speech Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, highlighted the achievements of the Ministry of Health under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf noting that noted over 5,000 people have been employed under various government programs and plans in Kano State. He also mentioned the involvement of private hospitals in regulatory efforts to ensure compliance with health standards.
He commended the government to implement projects and release funds for the renovation of hospitals and schools across the state, including spending over 90 million naira on medical equipment to testing pregnant women on hepatitis free as well as couples for the prevention of infectious diseases.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Madobi Local Government Area, Hon. Sulaiman Dan Azumi, described the day as significant, expressing pride for choosing Madobi as launch site for the mosquito net distribution. He assured the public that efforts will continue to improve the health sector in line with the governor’s vision.
Sulaiman Dan Azumi also explained that the Birji Primary Health Center was initially built by a late former member of the National Assembly and donated by a philanthropist, Alhaji Sani Birji, who also provided land for the construction of staff quarters. He used the opportunity to appeal to the government, through the Deputy Governor, to construct the road leading to Birji.
The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, represented by the District head of Shanono, Dr. Bashir Ibrahim Muhammad Dankaden Kano, called on District Heads and Community Leaders to keep records of pregnant women and monthly death statistics. He also instructed them to ensure that every child under five receives routine immunization whenever required
