Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has today Flag off 2025 Annual Tree Planting Campaign. The ceremony took place on Sunday at Yanbawa Shelter Belt in Yanbawa Village Makoda Local Government Area about sixty kilometers to the State Capital.
The Governor said his administration is fully committed towards reviving all the abandoned and degraded shelter belts in Kano state. The Governor narrated how his administration is making heavy investments in climate education across schools and communities in order to create awareness and culture of environmental responsibilities.
He emphasized that the inculcation of environmental responsibilities to citizens by government is also strengthened by the full implementation of the Kano State climate change policy and climate change action plan, both of which were signed into law.
Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf further disclosed how his administration is supporting tree planting and preservation of State forest by approving the payment of back locks salaries of forest guards, re-engaging of experience staff and recruitment of new ones.
Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim disclosed that the flag off is a testimony of Governor Yusuf administration’s vision and commitment to cleaner and healthy environment. Dr. Hashim further said the 5,000,000 seedling to be distributed today were locally produced from revived state-owned Nurseries, which were completely non functional when Governor Abba came into office.
The Commissioner said the State Government through ACRESAL Project was able to resuscitate two major Seedling Nurseries of MaiNika in Gwarzo Local Government and Kafin-Chiri in Garko Local Government. He said the seedling will be distributed to 44 Local Government Areas of the State, the Schools and other Public Places.
While delivering vote of thanks, the Chairman of Makoda Local Government, Alhaji Auwalu Isah Jibga thanks Governor Abba Kabir and all relevant stakeholders for selecting Makoda to hist the launching ceremony. Alhaji Auwalu further solicits for Government support for the execution of two roads projects which the Governor has instantly directed the Local Government to forward the Projects for approval.
