The Kano State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Results for Development (R4D) and development partners, has convened the Budget Process Reforms (BPR) Handover and Sustainability Plan Development Meeting at Comfort Hub Hotel, Kano.
The meeting brought together senior government officials, technical experts, civil society, and Health Agencies to review the achievements of the BPR project and adopt a sustainability framework for consolidating reforms in the health sector in a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the State Contributory Health Management Agency, Aminu Ahmad Turaki which was made available to thetentaclesnews.com.ng
The event recorded strong participation from the State Ministry of Health, its agencies including the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), and development partners—reflecting a united commitments to transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery.
The KSCHMA officials led by Dr. Musbahu Maimashi, who represented the Executive Secretary and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitments to sustaining reforms in health financing and service delivery.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Pharmacist Aminu Bashir, representing the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf saluted the stakeholders for their support in driving reforms and strengthening accountability in Kano State.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Federal Ministry of Health representative applauded Kano State for setting a national example in institutionalizing budget reforms and pledged continued federal support for subnational transparency and sustainability in health financing.
The R4D representative highlighted the journey of the BPR project, stressing the need to embed reforms within government systems for long-term impact. He reaffirmed R4D’s commitments to building state capacity and promoting inclusive, sustainable reforms.
Participants reviewed key milestones of the BPR project, including analyses, policy briefs, and knowledge products developed in 2023 and 2025.
Members of the Planning and Budgeting Committee and planning cells also shared experiences and lessons learned.
A major highlights of the meeting was the Sustainability Planning Workshop, where participants designed strategies around five thematic areas: institutionalization of reforms; capacity transfer and committee strengthening; financing continuity; knowledge management; and gender inclusion.
The workshop closed with the adoption of action points to ensure reforms are sustained beyond the project cycle.
In his closing remarks, Pharmacist Aminu Bashir reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to institutionalize reforms for better health outcomes and commended KSCHMA and sister agencies for their active role in the process.
