The Kano State Governor represented by Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and People with Special Needs, Amb. Hajiya Amina Sani Abdullahi (HOD), reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the welfare of persons with special needs, including those living with spinal cord injuries in a statement issued to thetentaclesnews.com.ng by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry,Bintu Nuhu Yakasai
The 2025 Spinal Cord Injuries Day celebration, themed “Fall Prevention and Spinal Cord Protection,” was held at Meena Event Centre, Lodge Road, Kano.
Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Amb. HOD emphasized the administration’s dedication to building an inclusive society where people with special needs are treated with dignity and given equal opportunities.
She announced plans on establishing a Commission for Persons with Special Needs by Kano State Government to institutionalize disability inclusion and ensure issues remain central to government programs and policies.
She expressed admiration for the strength and courage shown by survivors and urged them to accept their condition with courage, faith and hope in God.
The Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and People with Special Needs, Muhammad Sambo Iliyasu, welcomed guests and stressed the importance of awareness and compassion for individuals living with spinal cord injuries.
He also assured them of more commitments from the ministry. “We may not feel your pain fully, but we always be by your side whenever arises,” he stated
The acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Inuwa Idris Yakasai, who represented the Commissioner of the Ministry encouraged individuals with spinal cord injuries to remain hopeful and resilient.
He also acknowledged and applauded the patience, love and sacrifices of family members who provide care and emotional support to their loved ones with spinal injuries.
The Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injury Association, Abdulrahaman Uba Daushe commended the Ministry and government for their support, calling for sustained efforts to ensure inclusion, accessibility, and respect for people with special needs across the state.
Diverse stakeholders, including traditional leaders, Islamic scholars, health professionals, and Road Safety Corps representatives, participated in the event, united in advancing the wellbeing of spinal cord injury survivors.
The Ministry distributed assistive devices, including wheelchairs, walking sticks, and adult diapers, to ease daily challenges faced by individuals with spinal cord injuries.
This celebration reinforced the Kano State Government’s commitment to promoting disability rights, inclusive development, and a compassionate society.
