NUJ JIGAWA HOSTS SPECIAL PUBLIC LECTURE ON CYBERSECURITY

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Jigawa State Council has hosted a one-day public lecture focused on Cybersecurity and Digital Awareness.

The event was organised by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT & Digital Economy and the Jigawa State Digital Security Ambassador, as part of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Initiative under the Office of the National Security Adviser. The lecture aimed to enhance media professionals’ understanding of digital safety.

In his welcome address, Comrade Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse, Chairman of NUJ Jigawa State Council, highlighted the vital role journalists play in safeguarding information and upholding truth in today’s digital landscape.

He called for increased collaboration and training opportunities to improve journalists’ skills, stating, “I appeal for more collaboration with NUJ for better information dissemination.”

Dutse encouraged participants to actively engage with the knowledge shared during the lecture, emphasizing the collective responsibility to create a safer digital environment. He also praised Honourable Murtala Lawan Kazaure, the Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and Digital Economy, for organizing the event and advocated for strengthened partnerships between NUJ and the Governor’s office in training initiatives.

In his address, Honourable Kazaure explained that the training is tailored specifically for NUJ members, focusing on Cybersecurity, Digital Hygiene, and Safe Information Practices. He emphasized the critical role journalists have in shaping public opinion and the necessity of protecting information systems while promoting responsible online reporting.

Kazaure assured NUJ members that the Jigawa State Government will host a series of training workshops on ICT and Digital Economy, with members of the press included as trainees.

The event featured valuable insights from Murtala Lawan Kazaure, alongside resource persons Bashir Abba and Sadiq Maiyaji, who provided practical guidance on Cybersecurity and safe digital practices.
