The Kano Indigenous Languages of Africa Film Market and Festival (KILAF) said it will continue to encourage Nigerian youths to produce indigenous films that will promote norms and culture of Africa in its contents
This was made known by Alhaji Abdulkarim Muhd while fielding questions from in a Press briefing held at Nigeria Union of Journalist Kano State Council.
Abdulkarim said the 8th edition of film festival KILAF has received 616 films from 717 countries whereas twelve countries will host during this year Film festival.
He noted that during its preparation, it has published six publications which will be used for social production and Academia.
“There are 14 nations in contention for awards as some of the films were co-produced with UK, USA, Israel and Italy.
It is from this attached list that the 7-member Juries will bring out winners for onward recognition and awards on November 8th.
“There are prizes for 18 categories representing 18 winners out of 87 nominations.
However, due to the meticulous and rigorous nature of jurors’ selection process, we are assuring every nominee that he/she is a winner, nonetheless.
As we congratulates all Official KILAF 2025 Nominees because they truly deserve it.“Thus, we are really contributing to the body of knowledge in the study of filmmaking.
Therefore, we’re pleased to present last year’s publication and make it known that the copies are now out and available.
“We wish to also inform you about the 2nd Entrepreneurship Summit for Women in Media Business.
It is another KILAF component that was only added on last year. Therefore, the second edition is scheduled to hold between 10–2 pm on November 8th at the Dangote Business School, Bayero University New Site in Kano.
“The program, targeting 100 women beneficiaries, is specifically designed to encourage the participation and success of female entrepreneurs into the media ecosystem.
We hope to draw participants from all media organizations, the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Stand Up for Women’s Rights and Women in Media,” the Managing Director added.
