The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the eradication of poliomyelitis and other child killer diseases across the state in a statement issued by the Information Officer in the Deputy Governor’s Office,Yusuf Abubakar Ibrahim and made available to thetentaclesnews.com.ng.
This assurance was given by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who is also the State Chairman of the Taskforce Committee on Primary Health Care, during stakeholders’ meeting on polio eradication and routine immunization.
The meeting was held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, and brought together critical partners and stakeholders.While addressing participants, the Chairman expressed profound gratitude to development partners, Healthcare workers, Traditional Rulers, and all stakeholders for their steadfastness, support, patience, and dedication in the ongoing fight against the poliovirus and other preventable diseases affecting children.
He reiterated the State Government’s readiness to continue providing the necessary logistic support and resources to ensure the successful implementation of immunization activities.He further emphasized that the government will not tolerate any form of complacency, particularly from underperforming Local Government Areas (LGAs), stressing that strict measures will be taken against any LGA that fails to meet its immunization targets.
Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo commended high-performing LGAs, with special recognition to Gaya Local Government, which secured the first position in the last round of the immunization campaign.He urged other LGAs to emulate Gaya’s commitment and redouble their efforts towards improved healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, applauded the Kano State Government for its continued and strategic investment in the health sector. He noted that the incumbent administration’s proactive approach has significantly contributed to the progress recorded in the fight against polio and other infectious diseases.Providing an update on the ongoing immunization campaign,
Dr. Yusuf disclosed that the outcome of routine immunization across the state has been encouraging.He gave assurances that the new variant of the poliovirus currently being monitored is under control and will be effectively contained with the sustained efforts of the government and partners.
Also speaking at the event, the District Head of Municipal Local Government, Madakin Kano, Yusuf Nabahani, who represented the Emir of Kano, His Highness Khalifa Malam Muhammad Sunusi, extended the appreciation of the Kano Emirate to the State Government for its relentless commitment to eradicating polio.
He pledged the continued support of the traditional institution in achieving a polio-free Kano State.The meeting concluded with a renewed collective pledge from all stakeholders to sustain the momentum and intensify efforts towards achieving a healthier, polio-free Kano State.
